SFMOMA Food Scene

Less than a mile from Jasper, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) has reopened in its newly remodeled and expanded Third Street home. During this time, the SOMA neighborhood has continued to blossom with creative dining experiences.  So much so that it is garnering press regarding the dining options:

“The food scene surrounding the recently reopened San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) is delivering delicacies that signal a major transformation.” – Pasta Magazine

If you’re visiting SFMOMA or the other high-culture SOMA destinations, fuel your cultural craving at any of these culinary options.

Dirty Habit is an intimate hideaway for those seeking an inventive and sociable drinking and dining atmosphere, perched five floors above the SOMA streets. Order the fried lamb belly steamed buns topped with peanuts or foie gras torchon with pineapple soda cracker and rum in the dramatic film noir inspired dining room.  You can also dine outdoors in a fully heated outdoor patio and revel in your new Dirty Habit.

Vitrine Restaurant is a 74-seat establishment, located on the fourth level of The St. Regis San Francisco, offering an elegant and light-filled dining room with a sophisticated palette of sage green and white, custom-designed banquettes, chic tables and chairs, and rich herringbone-patterned wood floors. Order the black truffle frittata or poached eggs “a la Russe,” at this SFMOMA neighbor.

Volta is the newest restaurant from the award-winning team, Chef Staffan Terje and Umberto Gibin, who own and operate San Francisco’s acclaimed Perbacco and Barbacco. A brasserie rooted in French tradition with influences from other European culinary traditions including Scandinavia, Volta serves lunch, dinner, happy hour & weekend brunch. Try the pickled herring paired with volta!, a housemade aquavit.

Samovar Tea Lounge overlooks the Yerba Buena Gardens green space thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows that line the earth-hued tea room. Serving up international food and tea pairings from around the world, you’ll love the selection of organic, single origin and direct import teas, chai, iced tea, and herbal blends on an outdoor table with views of the garden and nearby skyscrapers. Try the traditional three-tier English platter.
