SFMOMA Opening May 14
The entire city is anxiously awaiting the unveiling of the new San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, SFMOMA, on May 14, 2016. The popular museum has been under renovation for quite some time; during the remodeling efforts, patrons have been viewing remote, On the Go, exhibits offsite. From what we have seen online, the new SFMOMA is quite impressive. It comes as no surprise that the reopening of SFMOMA is garnering the attention it deserves with recent articles on Vogue.com and other local online sites.
Led by the Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta, the new SFMOMA will be an design showstopper and will triple the gallery space, highlighting the museum’s four collecting areas Architecture + Design, Media Arts, Painting + Sculpture and Photography.
The opening of the new SFMOMA will truly impress as they showcase 19 new exhibitions for the viewing public. For a detailed breakdown of opening exhibitions, visit their website here. For those who can’t wait for the Opening, you can take a virtual tour here and explore every floor.
Their website showcases the mission of the new museum as forward thinking, with a vision for the future. The new SFMOMA facility will be ‘a meeting place where all can discover new inspiration and creativity, international in scope but rooted in the Bay Area, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art will connect more people than ever with the expansive possibilities of modern and contemporary art.’
True to Art and Artists. SFMOMA first opened its doors in 1935 and has become an iconic presence in the city as the first museum on the West Coast devoted solely to modern and contemporary art. Although the renovations will be awe-inspiring, the museum is committed to staying true to its mission. “This project is marked by a major physical expansion, but the core of our efforts is an investment in art, artists, and the growing audiences who will engage with the museum’s renowned public programs, exhibitions, and collections.” – Expansion Campaign Committee Chair and Vice Chair, Charles R. Schwab and Diana Nelson.
Welcome back, SFMOMA! We missed you.
Sincerely Yours
